DIM (do it myself by xheng) showcasing felt bouquets

felt bouquets

Happy New Year everyone!

Today is a very special day for us here at Pinay Bride Guide because for the first time, we're going to feature a bride who was able to use her experience in planning for her wedding as a start-up business venture. Her business is something that I personally support because it's about floral alternatives.

Our special guest today is Cheryl Malayon of DIM (Do It Myself by Xheng)

Xheng started out like us - excitedly planning her wedding and applying some elbow grease on her DIYs. The difference is that after her initial posts, a deluge of other bride-to-bes asked her to help them with their DIYs. The rest - as they say - is history. =D

Here is my interview with her.

PBG:               Kwento naman dyan. Tell us something about yourself.

DIM:               (mahirap to sis ah) i honestly don't know how to start for this interview. Hahahaha! Well, people call me Che, short for Cheryl, pero when i entered college i replaced it with Xheng. I forgot where i got that name. I grew up in Bacolod, but we decided to live here in Manila since 1992. I am currently working in a Law office located in Alabang, Muntinlupa. In short, working-business mom. I'm living with my fiance for almost 5 years then 2010 kami nabigyan ng angel and she's CZY short for Caiome Zymoun. I used to travel kahit nung bata pa ako, adventurous kasi ako. I love to sing (kahit wala sa tono) hahaha! I love art and crafts (very much). Ang routine ng buhay ko? bahay-office lang. Pag weekends business and deliveries naman. Obviously, I dont have time for gimmicks or social life except na lang pag nagyaya ng divi trip mga kapwa kong bride-to-bes. My life is very simple and I'm very much happy with it.

PBG:               Business minded ka palang talaga kahit nuon pa. Tell us more naman about the new product that you developed?

DIM:               DIM-byxheng makes non-fresh flowers for the whole entourage. Customized ceremony symbols such as ring pillow, candle, matches etc. Makes pre-nup props such as 3D Letters, Coronet, Prenup bouquets etc. DIM also makes cupcake towel souvenirs for birthdays and christening.

PBG:               Halos pala lahat ng DIY e available from you. So how did it start? Bakit ka napunta sa ganitong business?

DIM:               Nagstart ako sa cupcake towels souvenirs nung 2010. Fortunately, nag grow siya ng di ko inaasahan... Super blessed kasi I'm working pa nung time na yun then kabilaan yung order ng souvenirs. Nung medyo nakakaluwag na kami ni fiance, we decided to get married na. 2011 pa namin na plan, pero this year (2012) lang kami nag start sa lahat ng needs for the wedding preps. At dito ko nakilala si GT (Girltalk female Network) That was the time that I realized I can personalize my wedding. From invitations down to bouquets etc. Unang natapos sa DIYs ko is yung bouquet ng maid of honor ko. Nakakatuwa kasi wala pang 3 weeks, a friend from GT asked for my help, na kung pwedeng igawa ko daw siya ng bouquet for the whole entourage. Ayun, nagsimula na si DIM. Naging 2 orders per month then naging 3 and so on. Pero naging super happy ako when a client from Australia asked for the bouquets and she orders the cupcake towel souvenirs and bouquets for her entourage. Overwhelmed lang ako ng sobra sa blessings na binigay ni God. And now, 17 clients na for the whole year of 2013.

PBG:                Wow! Congratulations. Imagine, 17 orders at the start of the year palang. That’s really something. Tell us more about your products naman. What makes it unique?

DIM:               DIM uses felt cloth, fabric, feathers, brooches, beads, crystals, and paper as medium of art. I customized my products based on what the clients want for her wedding. Minsan nagbe-base lang din ako sa kung ano yung gustong ipagaya sa akin ng mga clients ko pero i make sure na may touch of DIM pa rin ang paggawa. I also make sure that it's matibay and hindi basta bastang masisira.

Uniqueness? Maybe dahil bago sa paningin ng tao. Tumatagal ang buhay, pwedeng maging souvenir for the abay or display sa bahay after the event.

PBG:               Okay. Ano naman ang price range ng products mo?

DIM:               I give prices depends sa dami ng entourage ng client. And yes, it is negotiable. But my basic package ranges from 5k-6k if all felt cloth materials. And 7k-9k if brooch fabric/felt materials.

PBG:               Very reasonable ang price ha given the fact na pwede pa nila itago. Mas affordable pa ang price nya compared to other real flowers. Where can they get in touch with you for orders naman?

DIM:               They can reach me thru these numbers:
                        09471800757/09237429713/ 09068877099
or they can send pms thru my fb page :

PBG:                There you go Pinay Bride Guide readers, make sure to save Xheng’s numbers and get in touch with her right away to book your orders. Thanks, Xheng for your time at pinagbigyan mo kami to do this interview. Last question nalang. What are some tips that you can give for a pinay bride?

DIM:               Preparing for your big day is a very stressful and pressured moment of your life. Choose suppliers that you are very comfortable to be with. Do a lot of research and always look for feedback sa mga suppliers na nakukuha or natitipuhan niyo. Set a budget then make a list of things na "must haves" on your wedding day, if may budget pa go for nice to haves.

Thanks a bunch to Xheng for sharing her works with us. To whet your appetites, here are some of Xheng's amazing creations. Enjoy!
